William Rabb

I don't know if this fellow is in our family, but my son found some info on a William Rabb and passed it along to me. The marker is a memorial of the William Rabb who fought in the battle at Kings' Mountain during the Revolutionary War.

Our William Rabb was born sometime in the early 1700's and at some point was living in Fairfield County, South Carolina. He married Eber__________. This info comes from a book, Index to Wills of Fairfield County.

William's son was James Rabb, born 1734 in Fairfield. James's son was Robert Shaw Rabb, born 1787, Fairfield. Robert Shaw Rabb was the father of Martha Rebecca Rabb, born 1815 in Newton County, Georgia; she died 1902 and is buried in the Olive- Mason Cemetery in Crestview, Florida. Her husband was Samuel William Settles, who is also buried in the same cemetery.

Samuel William Settles is my third great grandfather. Go to www.wikitree.com and do a name search for him. Hopefully, it will bring you to my tree!

Cleveland Public Library - Obituary File

When I searched this resource, I found seven entries for "Settles"! I doubt that these folks were in any way related to my line of Settles; on the other hand, if you go far enough back, we may share a common ancestor.

Settles - Rabb Connection

Rebecca Martha Rabb married Samuel W. Settles on 17 Oct 1833 in Stewart County, Georgia; that's where my Rabb line begins. Check out this 1833 Georgia Timeline; a more comprehensive timeline is found at Georgia History Timeline.

So, Stewart County is where it all began for the Settles-Rabb Connection!

Martha Rebecca or Rebecca Martha ,(I've seen it both ways),had been born in Newton County and Samuel in Laurens County. Their first son, George, was born in Stewart County.
